In 2006, artist Kathryn Barnes began the Greenwoods Art Independent Media Productions, as a division of her fine art company, Greenwoods Art. Covering issues that were under-reported, the artist was inspired to begin film production after photojournalism and art merged in a mission to bring important issues to light.
